In the late 1940's there was a men's jacket without lapels. Can anyone tell me what it was called?

I forget what it's called, but they're mostly just called "collarless jackets" nowadays, at least. The idea was to save fabric for military use during the war. (Finally, I use some of the knowledge from my 9th grade history class!)
